The Team

Meet The SmartDog Team

At SmartDog, our team shares a passion for dogs, learning, and positive training. Each of us brings unique skills and experiences, but we’re united by a commitment to helping you and your dog thrive together. Get to know the people behind the training—the ones dedicated to making learning fun, effective, and rewarding for both ends of the leash.

With over 20 years of experience, Sherry specializes in helping fearful, reactive, and hard-to-train dogs using science-based, force-free methods. A graduate of the renowned San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers and Certified Behavior Consultant Canine (CBCC-KA), she works with all breeds to create lasting, humane results. When not teaching, Sherry enjoys training her own rescue dogs and coaching agility.

Roberta has been part of our team since 2010, bringing a deep passion for the bond between people and their dogs. With expertise in both human and canine learning, she helps clients gain new skills and confidence while keeping training fun and effective. Roberta is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and is a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Dog Trainers (CAPDT).

Shannon joined SmartDog in summer 2021 after completing her practicum with us. Inspired by fostering and volunteering with rescues, she discovered her passion for training and continues to dive into courses, webinars, and books to expand her knowledge. Her rescue dog introduced her to the world of dog sports—starting with agility at SmartDog and now focusing mainly on disc.

Marti’s lifelong love of animals shows in her work with both dogs and their people. From family pets to even a clever cat, she’s always enjoyed training and learning new ways to improve communication between humans and animals. Excited to join SmartDog, Marti became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and continues to grow her skills and knowledge every day.

Margaret’s love of animals grew stronger when she got Ben, her first working dog, and discovered a passion for agility. After retiring from over 30 years with the provincial government, she now combines her administrative skills with her love of dogs at SmartDog. She enjoys working with fellow dog enthusiasts and continues to expand her knowledge of training.

As SmartDog’s office manager, Alexandra keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes. She’s the friendly voice behind emails, the go-to for communication with dog owners, and now the creative mind behind our social media. Whether it’s organizing, connecting, or sharing stories online, Alexandra makes sure both people and pups feel supported.
