Sherry and Dixie

Owner and Head Trainer Sherry Anton­ishen, a Cer­ti­fied Pet Dog Trainer with a degree from McGill Uni­ver­sity, cer­ti­fi­ca­tion from the San Fran­cisco SPCA (often referred to as the Har­vard of dog train­ing) and CPDT-KA cer­ti­fi­ca­tion (the only inde­pen­dent test­ing and cer­ti­fi­ca­tion for dog train­ers in North America).

 Smart­Dog Train­ing Works!

With over a decade of train­ing expe­ri­ence, Sherry has worked in many train­ing styles and wit­nessed fads come and go. In 2004 she opened Smart­Dog Training—a busi­ness that prides itself on improv­ing the lives of dogs and their own­ers through force-free, science-based train­ing and behav­iour mod­i­fi­ca­tion meth­ods. Sherry and her skilled staff offer a full range of train­ing for you and your dog, and we spice it up with video tuto­ri­als, real life exam­ples and practice!

Head trainer Sherry earned a cer­tifi­cate in Dog Train­ing and Coun­selling from the San Fran­cisco SPCA in 2004. She was CPDT-KA cer­ti­fied (Cer­ti­fied Pro­fes­sional Dog Trainer – Knowl­edge Assessed) in 2005 with the Cer­ti­fi­ca­tion Coun­sel for Pro­fes­sional Dog Train­ers. To obtain this cer­ti­fi­ca­tion she com­pleted the required 300 hours of lead train­ing expe­ri­ence and passed an inde­pen­dent, science-based exam.

Smart­Dog Train­ing adheres to the CPDT’s man­date for pro­fes­sional behav­iour, including:

  • Pro­vid­ing qual­ity, sound, science-based ser­vices to help you with your train­ing goals for your dog.
  • Pro­vid­ing accu­rate, truth­ful adver­tis­ing and rep­re­sen­ta­tions con­cern­ing qual­i­fi­ca­tions, expe­ri­ence, ser­vices, costs, and expected results.
  • Act­ing hon­estly and ethically.
  • Orga­niz­ing classes and pri­vate ses­sions to ensure max­i­mum safety of dogs and their owners.
  • Com­ply­ing with laws, reg­u­la­tions and eth­i­cal stan­dards gov­ern­ing pro­fes­sional practices.
  • Main­taing and respect­ing con­fi­den­tial­ity of information.

Smart­Dog spe­cial­izes in foun­da­tion train­ing for pup­pies or older res­cues and in urban dog enrich­ment. We have an excel­lent track record help­ing pup­pies and shy dogs be braver, help­ing impul­sive dogs achieve self con­trol, and giv­ing own­ers the tools they need to train as pro­fes­sion­als would, all in a respect­ful, fun, and chal­leng­ing envi­ron­ment. Our staff have exper­tise both in teach­ing dogs and in coach­ing peo­ple; no ques­tion is too silly, no puppy too zoomy, no res­cue too shy or too rowdy!
